Malaysian First Day Cover - Herons And Bitterns - Issued 25 June 2015

Herons are freshwater and coastal birds belonging to the family Ardeidae.  There 64 recognized species worldwide.  Some are called egrets or bitterns.  There are around 19 species of this bird found in Malaysia.  Herons are medium to large-sized birds with long legs and necks.  The smallest measure less than 12 inches and the largest around 60 inches in height.  Herons are highly mobile birds with most species being partially migratory.  Herons and bitterns are carnivorous and are mostly associated with wetlands and water thus they feed on a variety of aquatic live.  Heron's breeding season happens once a year and their nests are usually found near or above water where they are built securely around water vegetation.

Old Stamps Of Czechoslovalia ( Europe ) Part I

Czechoslovakia declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918 and lasted until 1992.  On 1st. January 1993, Czechoslovakia spit into Czech Republic and Slovakia.  Before the republic was formed, stamps of the Austro-Hungarian Empire were used and remained until 1919. The first actual stamps were issued in October 1918 which featured the Hradcany Castles of Prague.  The issue comes in two different sets with 53 different stamps. The first set is printed with the words " Posta Cesko-Slovenka " while the second one as " Cesko-Slovenko " Later on stamps with portrait of  " Thomas  Maryle " , the first president were released in 1920. In the same year, were issued  " Dove Stamps " together with " Chain Breaker Stamps "  Newspaper stamps were issued together with Hradcany Castles in 1918. Cesko is made up of three regions namely Bohemia, Moravia and East Silisia ( go to under German colonies to have a look at Bohemia and Moravia stamps when the two regions were German Protectorates )
