The coins and banknotes are from the independence era
Transnistria was inhabited by the Cumans and wars against them may have brought the territory under the Kievan Rus' rule around the 11th. century. It became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 15th. century. The territory was divided after the Cremean Khanate conquered the southern part and certain parts of the country were under the Ottoman Empire until 1792. The northern part remained under the Grand Duchy of Lithuania as part of the historical region of Podolia. After years of foreign dominations, Transnistria was given self-rule in 1990
