6. Old Stamps Of French Togaland ( Formerly Afrique Equatoriale Francaise - Now Republique Togolaise - Africa )
French and British forces invaded Togoland forcing the Germans to surrender on 26 August 1916. The British received 1/3 of the captured land while the French received 2/3 of it. In 1956 the Western side of the Togoland which belonged to the British voted to join the Gold Coast as part of the newly independent nation of Ghana. The French side became an independent country later and known as Republique Togolaise.
