German Colony Of South West Africa / Deutsch Sudwest-Africa ( Imperial Germany 1871 -1918 )
In 1884, South West Africa was taken as a German colony and abandoned during World War 1 when the area was taken over by the British. The first stamp issue for the colony consisted of overprints applied to German stamps in May 1897, reading as " Deutsch Sudwest Africa ". In 1900, the Yache issue included stamps for South West Africa.
