Old Stamps Of The Free State Of Bavaria ( Weimar Republic 1919 - 1933 )

The Weimar Republic was established in 1919 in Germany to replace the Imperial Germany 1871 .   During this period, and well into the succeeding Nazi era, the official name of the state was Deutsches Reich which continued on from the pre-1918 Imperial period.  In 1919, Bavaria  as one of the states in Germany became a Socialist Republic.   By May 1919, the short-lived republic declared itself as a free state in association with the Weimar Republic.  Between May and September 1919 Germania and Bayern stamps were overprinted
" Freistaat Bayern " meaning free state of Bavaria.  During the second half of 1919, Bavaria issued 3 new charity stamps overprinted with " Kriegs / Beschadigte / Freistaat / Bayern " meaning " For War Wounded / Free State of Bavaria "  .
