British India Coins were struck under the authority of the Crown. Under the Coinage Act of 1835, British India Coins had the portrait of King William IV on the reverse and the value on the obverse. After 1840, all coins of British India, bore the image of Queen Victoria when her Majesty earned the title of Empress of India. Issues ended just after India's independence in 1947 with picture of King George VI.
