1. In total, 9 species of wild cats can be found in Malaysia. Some of these species can only be found in Peninsular Malaysia , where as some are just found in Borneo. Wild cats in Malaysia are threatened by forest conversion and habitat loss due to development and agriculture, as well as rampant poaching. Tigers are heavily poached and traded for their body parts, which are mainly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine due to their medicinal values is unfounded. As such some species of Malaysian tigers are poached for their skin only. |
