New Stamps Of Malta ( Europe )

As a British colony, a British post office was set up there and started its operation  from 1857 until 1884. British stamps that were used there were cancelled with " M " and later " A 25 " postmarks. Malta issued its first stamps in 1860 and is known as " half penny yellow " . It joined Universal Post in 1875 and was the first British colony to do so. In 1885, Malta post office was separated from the British post office and the former released five definitive stamps reflecting Malta joining the UPU. When Malta received a new Constitution in 1921 leading to self-government, various definitive stamps issues were overprinted " self-government " . Most of the stamps shown here were issued when Malta was granted independence as the State of Malta in 1964.  ( stamps of Malta during the British rule can be seen on 03rd. April . 2014 )
