German Colony Of East Africa / Deutsche Ostafrika ( Imperial Germany 1871 - 1918 ) )

Deutsche Ostafrika  which means German East Africa was made up of Tanganyika which finally became Tanzania, Ruanda-Urundi the present-day Rwanda and Burundi,  Wituland which turned into Kenya and Kionga Triangle which became Portuguese Mozambique.

German Colony of Cameroon of Africa ( Imperial Germany 1871 - 1918 )

On July 1884, all the present-day Cameroon and certain  surrounding areas became a German colony spelt in German as Kamerun. German post office started issuing postal stamps in 1887. With the invasion of Cameroon in 1914, it was divided between the British and the French and known as British Cameroon and the French Cameroun.   The French side became the present-day Cameroon while the British section became part of Nigeria and also Cameroon.

German Colony - Togo ( Imperial Germany 1871 - 1918 ) - Africa

German stamps were first used in German Togo Africa on March 1888.  In November 1900, the Yacht issue was introduced.   The German post office closed with the British occupation in September 1914 and French occupation in October 1914.    The occupying forces used Yatch issues with "Anglo-French Occupation "overprints.

Imperial Germany 1871 - 1918 - Reichspost ( Europe )

The Reichspost started officially on May 4 1871 using initially stamps of the North German Confederation until it issued its first stamps on Jan 1st. 1872.  The most common stamps of Reichspost were the Germania stamps issued from 1900 until 1922 before it changed its name to Deutsche Reich ( German Empire ).

Old German States Issues ( Europe )

Prior to the German unification of 1871, individual German states and entities started to release their own stamps such as  North German Confederation ( 1857 ), Bavaria ( 1849 ), Baden ( 1851 ), Bergedorf ( 1866 ), Braunschweig ( 1852 ), Bremen ( 1855 ), Hamberg ( 1859 ), Oldenberg ( 1852 ), Prussia ( 1850 ), Saxony ( 1850 ), Schleswig - Holstein ( 1850 ), Heligoland ( 1886 ), Lubeck ( 1859 ) and Wurttemberg ( 1851 ).  After the unification, only Bavaria and Wurttemberg retained their postal authority to continue producing stamps until March 31 1920.

US Canal Zone Stamps Of Panama ( Latin America )

US Canal Zone.   This category includes the Canal Zone stamps printed under US administration.   Early issues were Panama and Columbian stamps overprinted with Canal Zone.  Starting in 1924, US postage stamps that were overprinted with Canal Zone were issued and in 1928 Canal Zone began issuing unique Canal Zone stamps of their own with Panama assumed joint control with the US in 1978.

Old And New Stamps Of Liberia A Former American Colony ( Africa )

Liberia was established by citizens of the US as a colony for former African American Slaves and their free black descendents.    It is one of the two sovereign states in the world that were started by slaves in America.  Sierra Leones for example was begun as a colony for settlement of Black Loyalists and poor blacks from England for the same purpose.    Liberia achieved independence from the American Colonization Society on 26 July 1847.
