Upon the death of his father Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak on the 28 of May 2014, the Perak National Council unanimously elected His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin as the 35th. Sultan of the State of Perak. The Perak Sultanate was established in 1528 when Sultan Mahmud the last Sultan of Melacca who fled from the Portuguese in 1511 and left a second prince in the State of Perak to continue his legacy as a ruler in the Malay States. A very highly educated Prince who obtained his PhD Degree in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University is married to Tuanku Zara Salim and blessed with a son and a daughter.
