Like Togoland, Cameroun as a German colony was divided between the
British ( 1/5 ) and the
French ( 4/5 ) after the war who received a larger portion of the country from his counterpart. The northern region voted to join Nigeria on the verge of independence from the British while the southern region opted to join Cameroun Republic in 1960 on a federated basis. A new nation borne from this union is now known as
Federale Republique du Cameroun.
