Old Stamps Of The United Kingdom ( Europe ) Part I

United Kingdom is noted for the introduction of postage stamps in 1840 and the establishment of efficient postal system laying the foundation of many national system throughout the world.  The delivery of letters and parcels made by Henry I in the 12 Century until 1680 when William Dockwra established The London Penny Post was not systematic with lots of complaint of delayed or lost letters.  The Grand Post Office Reform of 1839 -1840 saw the new idea by Sir Rowland Hill as a way to reverse the steady financial lost of the post office when he introduced the " Uniform Fourpenny Post " where letters were charged regardless of distance.  On 10th. January 1840 the Uniform Penny Post started charging only 1d for prepaid letters and 2d if the fee was collected from the recipients.  The adhesive label was mooted and to avoid collecting money on May 6th. 1840, the Black Penny, Britain's first stamp became the world first postage stamp in use.
