                                       4.   LUMBA-LUMBA - BOTTLENOSE DOLPHIN - TURSIOPS TRUNCATUS                                       Malaysia is fortunate to host four species of marine turtles such as the leatherback, green, hawksbill and olive ridley turtles.   These gentle creatures of the sea can swim great distances and come on land only to nest.  They are reputed for their longevity among the fishermen but sadly enough, the number of marine turtles in most places has plummeted and some populations are on the brink of extinction.    Females lay hundreds of eggs each time but few managed into adulthood as most of the young ones were eaten by predators on the way out to the sea.  When human harvest turtle eggs, the young turtles chances of survival slide even further.
