Old Stamps Of French Postal / Courier Services In Turkey / Ottoman ( Middle East )

Shown here are several Ottoman stamps overprinted with the respective area / town that were used by the French authority in Turkey / former Ottoman colonies such as Cilicie, Levent, Cavalle, Pedeagh, Port Lagos, Vathy and others.   Some of the stamps were printed with O.M.F meaning Occupation Militaire Francaise or T. E. O denoting literally in English as Occupation of Enemies Territories ( Territoires Ennemis Occupes ).

Old Stamps O French Syria ( Middle East )

France was assigned the mandate of Syria on 29 September 1923 which included the territory of present day Lebanon and Alexandretta ( Hatay ) in addition to Syria proper.   Syrian Federation ( 1922 - 1924 ), State Of Syria ( 1924 - 1930 ),  Syrian Republic ( 1930 ) . French mandate of Syria lasted until 1943

Old Stamps Of French Liban / Lebanon ( Middle East )

Lebanon was part of the Turkish Empire and used Turkish postage stamps during that time.   In the immediate aftermath of World War 1, when it was a French mandate, it used French stamps overprinted for use in the combined territories of Greater Syria.  The first Lebanese stamps in 1924 were actually overprinted French stamps. When Lebanon became a republic on 23 May 1926,  its stamps were printed as Republique Libaneise but later on were simply marked as Liban.

Stamps Of Burkino Faso ( Formerly Republic Of Upper Volta - Afrique Occidentale Francaise - Africa )

French colony of Upper Volta declared independence on the 5th. of August 1960 and became known as The Republic Of Upper Volta.    On August the 4th. 1984,  the Republic of Upper Volta changed its name to   " Burkino Faso " which means " the country of  honourable  people " .
