Old Stamps Of Saar / Saargebiet 1922 - 1924 ( Weimer Republic 1919 - 1933 )

Saar was originally a German territory of great interest to France. After World War One the territory was administered by the League of Nations for a period of 15 years.   In the absence of Germany to take over the task of mail delivery, the League of Nations established its own postal administration.   The first stamps of Saar were stamps of Deutsches Reich overprinted with Sarre ( French name ).  Later on more stamps were printed with Saar or Saargebiet ( Saar territory ) .  Saar stamps were on sale until May 1959 after which it started using the regular stamps of the Federal Republic of Germany.
