Malaysian First Day Covers - Malaysian Public Transport ( Trains In Sabah ) - Issued 28th. Dec 2015

The history of rail services in Sabah started with the introduction of The British North Borneo Chartered Company in 1896, known as the North Borneo Railway. It was originally intended primarily to transport tobacco from the interior to the coastal areas for export. In 1963, the North Borneo Railway was renamed Sabah State Railway Department ( JKNS ). The railway operated by JKNS - under the Sabah State Ministry of Infrastructure is the only railway services in Sabah. Trains in Sabah are using diesel locomotives such as Diesel Multiple Units ( DMU ), Railbus and Hitachi Diesel Hydraulic Locomotive. Besides the regular train services, JKNS is also collaborating with Sutera Harbour Travel to introduce the North Borneo Railway Historical Tour from Tanjung Aru to Papar with a steam-powered train named as British Vulcan 15 steam engine a 1956 locomotive . The North Borneo Railway Historical Tour  was officially launched on 22nd. January 2000 in honour of Kota Kinabalu achieving city status on 02nd. February 2000.
