Malaysian First Day Cover - Chinese Festival Food Series - 24 January 2017

Every community in Malaysia has its own unique festive culinary offerings. The highlight of Chinese New Year celebration is the reunion dinner, where varieties of auspicious foods are prepared and served during the get-together session of family members. During the reunion dinner, various feast of auspicious foods are served and each dish represents or symbolises positive attributes for instance, yu ( fish ) is a symbol of abundance and fatt choy ( a type of seaweed ) represents prosperity. Among the popular dishes are poon choi, yee sang, lettuce wraps, spring rolls, lotus root soup and steamed fish just to name a few.
