On 6th of February 1816 a committee headed by Reverend Robert Sparke Hutchings then the Colonial Chaplain of the Prince of Wales Island ( Penang ) submitted a proposal for the establishment of a school to the Governor of Penang. The school was open to all children regardless of age and religion. That is how the school got its name. Penang Free school is the oldest school in Malaysia and South East Asia as well. Its first Headmaster was Mr. James Cox. Today we are commemorating Penang Free School for achieving a 200 Years of Excellence in education.
