Old And New Stamps Of Singapore - South East Asia

Singapore is an island city-state off southern tip of the Malay peninsular and is the smallest nation in South East Asia. The island was ruled independently by a pro-Siamese ruler by the name of Tumagi in the 14th. century and was later defeated by a Palembang prince named Parameswara who became the founder of  the famous Melacca Sultanate. In 1819, Thomas Stanford Raffles established a British trading port on the island. Under the British Singapore grew rapidly as a major trading port city. It was occupied by the Japanese in 1942 till 1945 . After the war, it was controlled back by the British and later merged with Federation of Malaya and later into Malaysian in 1963. It became an independent Republic of Singapore on August 1965.
