Old And New Stamps Of Brunei - South East Asia

Brunei is located on the north coast of the island of Borneo. Its coastline with the South China Sea is the only portion that is not bordered by another country. The first stamps of Brunei were the 1895 " star and the crescent set " . In 1906, stamps of Labuan came into use overprinted Brunei. In 1907, a set inscribed " Brunei Postage and Revenue " was issued showing a boat in Brunei river and remained in use until 1949. Brunei was occupied by the Japanese in 1942 till 1945. Brunei stamps were overprinted with Japanese words or seals. After the liberation , most of the stamps were overprinted with BMA. Stamps of Brunei returned on 02 June 1947 and in 1949, a set was issued celebrating Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Silver Jubilee. In 1952, a series of definitive stamps were issued featuring Sultan Ali Omar Saifuddin and lasted until 1972. Regular commemorative and definitive stamp issues were continued since then. Brunei as part of the Malay State during British Malaya was not included into Malaysia in 1963 and became a separate nation.
