Portuguese Melacca Coins
The Portuguese people were the first European to have reached the east motivated with their motto Gold, Gospel and Glory. They established their first trading port in Goa, India. Upon knowing the richness of Melacca then, the Portuguese under the pretext of extending friendship and trading, somehow managed to find an excuse to conquer Melacca and they succeeded in 1511. They were defeated then by the Dutch with the help of Johore in 1641 and stayed in power for almost 130 years. The tin coins shown are not in good conditions having found buried in the sea for hundreds of years.
