British Penang Coins

The two coins dated 1810 were introduced by the British when they occupied the island in 1796. The British agreed in the first place to help Kedah face treats from the Siamese in return for the island of Penang.  In the event of Siamese invasion of Kedah, the British did not fulfill their promises but instead helped the Siamese to gain control of the state. Years later the British called the island as " The Prince of Wales " .
