Coin of Carolus IV of Spain
observe / reverse.
Charles IV or Carolus IV was the second son of Carolus the III. His preferences on sports and hunting over the affairs of the government earned his the title of " El Cazador " ( the hunter ) . Ruled Spain from 1788 to 1808, he left the affairs of the government to his wife Maria Luisa and his entrusted Prime Minister. His habit of switching sides in times of upheaval devalued his position as a trusted ally and finally became a prisoner of Napoleon. It was during the reign of this monarch that the last series of Spanish dollars were struck before the US began the US silver dollars in 1794
