The nation of Georgia originated from the ancient states of Colchis and Iberia. Unified by the Bagrationi Dynasty in 9th. and 10th. century and flourished in 10th. and 12th. century. Later it fell to the Mongols invasion in 1243. It was annexed by the Russian Empire in 1801. In 1922 till 1936, it became a part of Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The present day Republic had been independent since 1991.
