Coins of Moldova
These coins were minted after Moldova became an independent state.
Moldova is an independent country now which occupies land that has been known as Bessarabia. History sources did mention Moldova as a state in 1359. Early settlers known as Vlachs made their settlements in Eastern Subcarpathia and their capital city was called Siret. In 16th. century, Moldova became a Turkish vassal. In the middle of 18th. century, Russia got patronage over Moldova. After the Russian-Turkist War in 1787 to 1791, Moldova became part of Russia. When the Romanian military forces entered Bessarabia, the land was divided between the Romanians and the Russians but on 28 June 1940 the Romanians released their stake on Moldovian land to to the Russians. Finally on 27 August 1989, Moldova became an independent state.
